About this tour

The best-known Fuji and Hakone package from Tokyo. The coach goes to the Fuji 5th Station when the road is open, then on to Hakone for the ropeway and a boat across Lake Ashi. You return from Odawara to Tokyo by Shinkansen, and the ticket is included.

If weather or road closures change the programme, the operator substitutes other stops or a gift and does not refund. A buffet lunch can be added; vegan, halal and gluten-free meals are not offered.

Included

  • Coach from Tokyo
  • Hakone Ropeway
  • Lake Ashi cruise
  • Shinkansen ticket Odawara to Tokyo

Not included

  • Lunch (buffet optional at extra cost)

Where it starts

Matsuya Ginza or the LOVE sculpture in Shinjuku.

Know before you go

  • Programme changes for weather or closed roads are replaced with other stops or a gift, without a refund.
  • Large coach tour.
  • No vegan, halal or gluten-free lunch.

Facts taken from the operator's product page on the booking platform, checked in October 2026.

How the day is built

  1. Coach departure from Matsuya Ginza or from the LOVE sculpture in Shinjuku in the morning.
  2. The Fuji side, with the 5th Station on the Yamanashi side when road and weather allow.
  3. Lunch, with an optional buffet at extra cost.
  4. Hakone in the afternoon, with the Hakone Ropeway and a cruise across Lake Ashi.
  5. The Shinkansen from Odawara to Tokyo, with the ticket included.

The whole day takes about ten hours. The coach is a large one, so expect a full group rather than a small one.

When the programme changes

If weather or a closed road takes a stop out of the day, Japan Panoramic Tours replaces it with other stops or a gift. There is no refund for the lost part. That matters most between December and early April, when snow and ice often close the Fuji Subaru Line to the 5th Station, and on days with heavy traffic, when a late start can push the order of the day around. One traveller below describes being moved from the Ginza departure to a Shinjuku coach and going straight to lunch instead of the 5th Station. The free cancellation up to the deadline on the booking page is the way to step back if the forecast looks bad; the rules of the other operators are set side by side on a separate page.

Meeting points

The tour starts at Matsuya Ginza or at the LOVE sculpture in Shinjuku. Several tours gather at the sculpture at the same time, so look for your operator's sign and arrive early. The coach part ends in Odawara, and after about half an hour on the Shinkansen you arrive in central Tokyo, not back at the starting point.

Food and language

The optional buffet does not offer vegan, halal or gluten-free food, so bring your own if you need it. The live guide speaks English. Recorded commentary is listed in French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish and Ukrainian, and one Italian traveller reports that the Italian part lasted only a few minutes while the rest of the day ran in English.

Who may prefer another tour

Travellers who want a small group, more time at fewer places or a guaranteed 5th Station in winter. For a smaller vehicle, see the small-group tours. For the same Hakone route with a coach-only return, see the Fuji and Hakone comparison. For a refund rule when the 5th Station is closed, see the private tours.

Travellers on this tour

The critical reviews describe a long, rainy day and a day that lost the 5th Station after a change of coach and heavy traffic. Both fall under the operator's rule: changed stops are replaced, not refunded.

“Mai was an excellent guide and very knowledgeable! We lucked out with good weather to see Mt Fuji and the cruise on Lake Ashi was the perfect way to end the day.”

“guide Aki was great, very disappointed with trip overall. … Arrived at Ginza, not allocated on Ginza bus, transferred to Shinjuku on Tokyo tour bus adding 1/2 hr Heavy traffic slower travel time to Mt Fuji, route straight to lunch instead of Mt Fuji 5th station Buffet lunch limited, very average.”
